WELCOME TO THE DUBBO FIELD NATS WEBSITE!

June '09: This site is currently under review, stay tuned for more changes and content in the near future.

CURRENT KEY ACTIVITIES:

- Monthly Social Meetings - third Tuesday of each month, 7:30pm, Western Plains Cultural Centre, Wingewarra St., Dubbo.

- Monthly Field Trips - see calendar page.

- 'Wattle Grove': Wattle Grove is just below the railway bridge near River Street, Dubbo. Members have planted a number of trees and together with the Macquarie River Bushcare group have continued to maintain this area turning weeds into a grove of wattles and other native endemic plant species.

- Glossy Black-Cockatoo Project: Members conduct an annual counts of Glossy Black-Cockatoos in the Goonoo State Conservation Area. The information collected is providing data to help scientists understand the needs of, and threats to, the Glossy Black-Cockatoo in this region.  Visiting birdwatchers are invited to contact us for more information about this project, or to join in a count.  For more information contact Janis Hosking - see contact page for details.

- Bush Stone Curlews: Bush Stone Curlews (also known as 'Bush Thick-Knees') are present in the Dubbo area, although rare and under significant threat from foxes and clearing of woodland areas. The DFNCS is working with landholders, the RLPB and NSW DECC to promote the plight of the bird and encourage logs to be left on the ground in areas where they may be. For more information, see here.
